We're a little short of heroes; Things aren't like they used to be. The world's a very different place, Than it was for you and me.
We had cowboys like Roy Rogers, We had actors like John Wayne. The "good guys" always won the fight - The choice was very plain.
And even if our heroes then Were men with feet of clay. They still soar high as eagles When compared with those today.
We have rappers rapping violence; Rock stars doing drugs and booze We can't even look to athletes, Where do we go to choose?
There's a very simple answer - You don't have to look too far; He isn't in a rock group, Or a current movie star.
In fact, I'll bet you know one - It's a Veteran, you see. They've come from every walk of life, To fight for you and me.
But somewhere, though, along the way, We denied these heroes' rights to receive respect and honor, for the wars they've had to fight.
So find yourself a hero - It won't be hard at all; But if, still, you can't find one, Let me take you to a "WALL."
It's black and gleaming granite Shines brightly in the sun; And all the names inscribed there, Are heroes, every one.
For them a hero's welcome Came many years too late; So that is why you need to thank Those living - Do not wait.
Yes, we are in need of heroes, But they're really close at hand. They're the reason we are living, In a blood-bought, war-free land.
